On Friday and Saturday, 25 and 26 October 2013, members of Khulumani Support Group from Mamelodi in Tshwane will be participating in activities planned to commemorate the life of Mr Moss Morudu following extensive unsuccessful efforts by the Missing Persons’ Task Team (MPTT) in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to find his remains.

The ceremony will involve a SYMBOLIC spiritual repatriation of his remains from the site at which it appears his body was blown up.

Moss Morudu was an internal member of the MK unit that comprised Jabu Masina, Ting Ting Masango, Neo Potsane and Joseph Makhura. Moss disappeared on 26 October 1987, aged 22.

Amnesty applicants from the Northern Transvaal Security Police stated to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) that they had abducted him and held him at Kaallaagte Farm near Hammanskraal where he they had interrogated and tortured him.

Subsequent information indicated that he had been moved from Kaallaagte Farm and killed near the ‘Bophutatswana’ village Kgomo Kgomo in the Makapanstad District. After he was killed, his body was apparently blown up.

Members of the same unit of Security Police were involved in the abduction and torture of Ms Nokuthula Simelane on a farm at Northam near Rustenburg. Ms Simelane was never seen again. Despite the failure of her torturers to disclose what they had done with her body, they received amnesty from the Amnesty Committee of the TRC. The family of Nokuthula Simelane have applied for a judicial inquest into the disappearance of their daughter and sister, Nokuthula.
